May 8 Last Day, Cruising to Memphis

Today is the last full day onboard the American Queen steamship. Tomorrow we disembark for home. This morning the ship sponsored a non-denominational worship service. Al and I both enjoyed it.

After the morning talk given by Brian about the Civil War, Lyndal gave us instructions for our disembarkation. Our suitcases will be collected tonight and we were reminded to leave out a set of clothes to wear in the morning. One of our group members laughingly told us..."I was on a different ship when we got our instrucdtions to disembark. I forgot all about setting aside my clothes for the next day. The next morning I woke up in my nightgown and my suitcase had been picked up and taken to the airport! I threw on a winter parka. When we got to the airport I rushed around in my parka and night gown and arrived at our baggage counter demanding to find my suitcase! My suitcase was tracked down finally and I was able to get my clothes for the day!"

I sure hope that doesn't happen to me!

At lunch time I have an accident. I am embarrassed by what happened to me. I finish my lunch before Al and decide to sit on the suspended swinging bench attached by chains leading to the ceiling. The bench looks so inviting. Without telling Al what I am doing, I sit down on the swing in such a way that the swing moves away from me and I fall off the swing and onto the floor with a thud. About 4 passengers jump up from their seats and rush to my aid. They pull me up to a standing position. I am laughing but at the same time embarrassed. Al never hears me fall onto the floor. He just continues eating his lunch oblivious to the drama taking place behind him.
