Lower Mississippi Trip

Wednesday April 27, 2022 At Home

Jazz...Jazz...Jazz!

I walk into our kitchen to start breakfast, and all I can think about is jazz music! I don't normally listen to jazz music at home, but now the tunes and beat are in my head. There is a growing excitement building inside me. I yearn to hear jazz. I grab my cell phone and search for my jazz folder. There he is! Louis Armstrong! I am soon filled with jazz and I can't seem to get enough of it. Jazz for breakfast! Crazy. I'm in a bad way and I haven't even left home yet. Another 24 hours to go and then some. Oh well, it is as it is. Again searching my music folder I come across "Hang on, Ramsey"! This is a favorite. Who cares about breakfast as long as Ramsey is playing. The day passes peacefully.

Thursday April 28, 2022 Home to Bradley Airport, Hartford

"I forgot my water bottle!"

The morning passes organizing my clothes and packing. I have to dig out my summer clothes for this trip to New Orleans. The weather map shows almost 80 degrees in New Orleans! Short sleeve tops...where are you?! There you are! Are you ready for a trip to down South? Little by little my bag gets packed. Finally I tackle the pill organizers for Al and me. I take the most meds. Gad...Maren...think clearly. Watch what you are doing. Don't mess this up. Organize for 12 days.

Lunch, empty out refrig...take out the trash. Take a rest.
It's time to go. We say good bye to Rob and Stella. Brewski is inside sleeping.

We're off! (or so we think.)

"Do you have your water bottle, Al?"
"I forgot my water bottle!" exclaims Al.

We are only three houses away on our street so back we go for the water bottle. My mind goes back a few years to the time we set out for Vermont.

"Stop!" I yell. "Go back!"
"Go back...what for?"
"I forgot to pack my underwear!" (no more needs to be said).

We are now in our room at the airport hotel. We are over looking the runways and enjoy watching airplanes landing...gee...look at that. It's a helicopter.

Our room is on one of the upper floors and is VERY quiet. Our car is parked in the garage under the hotel. When a plane takes off, we can feel the building shake a bit, but can't really hear it. We settle in then go down to the lobby for a meal. I order a Reuben and Maren orders a grilled cheese sandwich, hold the cheese. This got a quizzical look from the waitress, so Maren explained that she wanted a grilled chicken sandwich, hold the cheese!
